What is an IMEI Number?
IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity which is a Unique Identification or Serial Number given to each smartphone. It is a 15 digit long number printed on the backside of your phone which is used to track a device when lost or stolen.
You can find the IMEI number below your mobile’s battery or on the phone’s packaging box. You can also check it by dialing *#06# from the dial pad.
Advantages of changing IMEI number
You can make your android phone untraceable by changing your IMEI number. It is very useful in situations where people are stalking you or tracking you.
Fix any IMEI-related issues such as lost or invalid IMEI numbers and obtain a new device ID.
Sometimes your Android phone may not be able to get new OS updates or download new OS updates. But if you change the IMEI number to a new one then it will indicate that your phone is the latest model and then you will get all the new OS updates.
There a lot of companies that make certain offers that are available to users based on IMEI numbers but you can change your device’s IMEI number and avail those offers.
Disadvantages of changing IMEI number
In some countries like the UK, the US, and some EU, it is illegal to change your IMEI number. So do check if it is legal in yours. While it is legal in some African and Asian countries.
The IMEI number is hardcoded into your device. Therefore, changing the numbers could damage your device in the process of changing it.
When you change your IMEI number it proves that, legally, you have forfeited your ownership of your mobile device. When you purchase a smartphone, the seller jots down the original IMEI number on your receipt. So if you change your IMEI and lost it, you may not be able to claim it. This is because authorities cannot check if it is truly yours. After all, the IMEI numbers no longer correlate with each other.
